Formative Residency & Regional Eligibility Gate
To preserve the core mission of the Academy, all nominees must possess deep, formative roots within the city of Gary, Indiana. Eligible candidates must have been raised in Gary during their youth/adolescence and/or attended Gary public, private, or parochial schools. Birth alone, without formative local residency or local education, does not fulfill the foundational criteria of this Academy.
The GAPCL accepts nominations for Laureate status based on the formative residency requirement and sustained, verifiable achievement in one of our five designated disciplines:
STEM & Medicine: Scientific Discovery & STEM — physics, chemistry, engineering, aerospace, and mathematics; Medicine & Environmental Sciences — physicians, surgeons, and medical researchers, alongside patent holders and natural resource economics.
Jurisprudence, Governance & Applied Economics: Law & Jurisprudence — the judiciary, constitutional law, international arbitration, and legal scholarship; Statesmanship, Policy & Economics — elected officials, diplomats, public administrators, and economists who shaped government institutions and macro-economic policy.
Academia & Intellectual Legacy: Academic Excellence & Education — scholars, university presidents, national policy advisors, and school system leaders; Mastery in Literature & History — authors, journalists, diplomats, and historians.
Industry & Commerce: Corporate Leadership — corporate executives driving large-scale growth; Architecture & Structural Construction — architects, civil engineers, general contractors, and financial sponsors who designed and built physical infrastructure.
Foundational Impact: Corporate founders, business executives, and major donors who establish charitable funds to build schools, technology academies, and community assets.
Nominations are accepted from institutional peers, professional colleagues, or other qualified non-relative sources who can provide the necessary supporting documentation and evidence of impact. Self-nominations and submissions from immediate family members are not accepted, in order to preserve the integrity and impartiality of the review process.
All nominations are routed through the Office of Governance. Upon receipt, the Office initiates a preliminary review to ensure the candidate meets the baseline objective criteria for their respective field.
To ensure the Academy remains an unassailable record of elite accomplishment, all nominees must provide evidence of their work, including, but not limited to:
Academic/Professional Credentials: Peer-reviewed publications, patents, or recognized professional certifications.
Institutional Service: Records of leadership roles in government, non-profits, or corporate structures.
Public Impact: Documentation of projects, built works, or historical narratives that have shaped the civic landscape.
